Common Threads – A Photographic Passage Opens at India Habitat Centre, Bringing Together Art, Climate Consciousness and Social Purpose

New Delhi, 8 May 2026: Common Threads – A Photographic Passage, a photography exhibition by noted photographer, development economist, and policy thinker Vinod Thomas, opened at the iconic India Habitat Centre on 8 May 2026, presenting a powerful collection of over 60 photographic works that explore the interconnected narratives of nature, culture, history, and humanity. The exhibition, which combines artistic expression with environmental reflection and social commitment, drew distinguished guests, art enthusiasts, policymakers, environmental advocates, and members of the photography community. The exhibition was inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting attended by an eminent gathering of dignitaries including Rajat Nag, former Managing Director of the Asian Development Bank; Rakesh Mohan, former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India; Bharati Chaturvedi, Founder and Director of Chintan; Supdipto Mandal, Chairman of the Centre for Development Studies; alongside photographer Vinod Thomas himself.

Curated by Virendra Shekhawat, Founder of the Delhi Photography Club, Common Threads presents an immersive visual journey across six evocative themes — Birds & Habitats, Culture & Tradition, Monuments & History, People & Values, and Sun & Moon. Through landscapes, wildlife imagery, portraits, heritage sites, and moments of everyday life, the exhibition reflects on the invisible yet enduring connections that bind humanity to the natural world and to each other.

At its core, the exhibition offers a thoughtful meditation on coexistence and continuity. From delicate ecosystems and vanishing habitats to enduring cultural traditions and historical monuments, the photographs invite viewers to reflect on the fragility and resilience of the world around them. The exhibition not only celebrates beauty and diversity but also raises deeper questions about environmental stewardship and collective responsibility in a rapidly changing world.

Speaking at the opening, Vinod Thomas strongly emphasized the urgent need for greater activism and public engagement in addressing climate change. Reflecting on the environmental crises confronting the world, he underscored the importance of moving beyond awareness towards meaningful action and collective responsibility. He highlighted how photography can transcend aesthetics to become a powerful medium for reflection, empathy, and advocacy, helping people connect emotionally with urgent environmental concerns.

Echoing these concerns, Bharati Chaturvedi spoke passionately about climate justice, sustainability, and the growing need for citizen participation in addressing waste, urban environmental degradation, and ecological inequities. Through the work of Chintan, she emphasized the importance of community-led solutions in creating more sustainable and equitable cities.

The evening also carried an emotional moment as Vinod Thomas paid tribute to legendary Indian photographer Raghu Rai, reflecting on his recent passing and his immense contribution to photography and visual storytelling. He specifically recalled Raghu Rai’s iconic image from the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, describing it as one of the most powerful photographs ever made — an image that not only documented immense human suffering but also served as a timeless reminder of environmental negligence and the moral responsibility of societies and institutions.

Adding a strong social dimension to the exhibition, all proceeds from the sale of photographs will be donated toChintan to support its environmental and community initiatives, reinforcing the exhibition’s larger message of conservation, social responsibility, and collective action.

The exhibition is on display till 9 May 2026 at the Open Palm Court of the India Habitat Centre, offering visitors, photography enthusiasts, environmentalists, and the wider public an opportunity to experience a visual narrative that bridges art, heritage, climate consciousness, and humanity. Common Threads – A Photographic Passage stands as more than a photography exhibition — it is an invitation to pause, reflect, and rediscover the common threads that connect humanity, heritage, and the planet we collectively share.

Vision 360 Symposium Highlights Need to Bridge Ophthalmic Research and Patient Care in India

Academia, Industry, and Clinicians Unite to Accelerate Innovation in Eye Care

Mumbai, April 27, 2026: In a decisive move to address India’s growing burden of eye disorders, Vivekanand Education Society’s College of Pharmacy (VESCOP), ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, and APTI-MSB jointly hosted Vision 360, a landmark one-day National Symposium on “Translating Ophthalmic Innovations from Bench to Bedside.” Held at VES College of Pharmacy, Mumbai, the symposium brought together leading pharmacy experts, ophthalmologists, industry stakeholders, regulators, students, and research scholars.

The event served as a dynamic platform to foster collaboration and fast-track the conversion of laboratory discoveries into real-world treatments. Through keynote sessions, expert talks, e-poster presentations, and interdisciplinary discussions, Vision 360 emphasized the importance of translational research in advancing patient care.

India’s Growing Eye Health Crisis Demands Immediate Attention

India continues to face a significant eye health challenge, with nearly 75% of blindness cases considered preventable or curable. Glaucoma alone impacts over 12 million people, with nearly 90% of cases going undiagnosed. Additionally, conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and ocular infections affect millions, placing increased pressure on healthcare systems.

While advancements in pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, and clinical research have accelerated the development of new therapies, a critical gap remains between research and its clinical application. Vision 360 directly addressed this gap by highlighting strategies to translate innovations from pre-clinical stages to effective patient treatments.

Industry Leaders Emphasize Collaboration and Skill Development

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nikkhil K. Masurkar, CEO, ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, said:

“With growing advancements in ophthalmic research, it is essential to strengthen the translation of innovation from bench to bedside. Vision 360 serves as a vital platform for academia, clinicians, and industry to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and drive progress in ophthalmic therapeutics. It also provides students with valuable exposure to real-world applications, emerging technologies, and industry expectations—helping them build relevant skills and make informed career choices in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.”

VESCOP Reinforces Commitment to Research and Innovation

Prof. Supriya Shidhaye, Principal, VESCOP, added:

“As an institution dedicated to academic excellence and research, VESCOP strives to promote multidisciplinary learning and meaningful engagement. Vision 360 reflects our commitment to fostering knowledge exchange, advancing translational research, and strengthening collaboration across the pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem.”

Expert Sessions Highlight Emerging Trends and Technologies

The symposium featured insightful sessions by eminent speakers, including Mr. Nikkhil K. Masurkar, Prof. Thakur Raghu Raj Singh (Queen’s University, Belfast), Dr. Kasturi Bhadsavle (Founder, EyeVet), Dr. Sanjay Tamoli (Founder, TIMER), and Dr. Sadhana Sathaye (Professor, ICT).

    Key discussions focused on:

    • Innovations in ophthalmic research
    • Translational approaches in drug development
    • Regulatory and clinical perspectives
    • Market trends in ophthalmic products
    • Emerging experimental models such as zebrafish and Drosophila

Encouraging Young Researchers Through Innovation Platforms

A major highlight of Vision 360 was the research-based e-poster competition conducted in an online format. The initiative encouraged student participation and provided a platform to showcase cutting-edge research in ophthalmology within a structured presentation format.

The symposium aimed to deepen understanding of translational research, strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, and expose participants to emerging technologies and therapeutic strategies in ocular drug delivery.

  • ₹20,000–23,000 Crore Mega IPO: Why NSE’s OFS Model is Different from Traditional Listings

₹20,000–23,000 Crore Mega IPO: Why NSE’s OFS Model is Different from Traditional Listings

India’s capital markets may be on the brink of one of their most anticipated public offerings. The proposed ₹20,000–23,000 crore IPO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) is not just significant in size—it stands apart because of its structure. Unlike conventional IPOs that raise fresh capital for expansion, NSE’s offering is expected to follow the Offer for Sale (OFS) route, making it fundamentally different from traditional listings.

In a typical IPO, companies issue new shares to the public, thereby raising funds to fuel growth, reduce debt, or invest in new projects. Investors, in turn, evaluate the company’s future potential and capital deployment strategy. However, in an OFS-led IPO like NSE’s, there is no fresh issuance of shares. Instead, existing shareholders—such as institutional investors, early backers, or financial entities—sell a portion of their holdings to the public. This means the proceeds from the IPO go directly to these shareholders, not to the company itself.

This distinction is crucial. NSE, as an exchange, is already a highly profitable and cash-rich institution. It does not necessarily require additional capital for expansion in the same way a growing startup or manufacturing company might. The OFS model allows early investors to unlock value while enabling retail and institutional investors to participate in the ownership of a well-established financial infrastructure entity.

Another factor that makes NSE’s IPO unique is its regulatory and governance context. Over the years, the exchange has navigated compliance challenges and strengthened its governance frameworks. The IPO, therefore, is also seen as a step toward greater transparency, public accountability, and market-driven valuation. Listing on the stock exchange will subject NSE to stricter disclosure norms, which could further enhance investor confidence.

From a market perspective, the IPO is expected to attract strong demand due to NSE’s dominant position in India’s derivatives and equities trading segments. Its near-monopolistic presence, robust revenue streams, and high margins make it a compelling investment story. However, since the IPO does not infuse new capital into the business, investors will primarily be betting on steady earnings, dividend potential, and long-term market growth rather than aggressive expansion.

For retail investors, understanding the OFS structure is essential. While the brand value and financial strength of NSE may be attractive, the absence of fresh capital deployment changes the narrative from growth-focused to value-based investing.

In essence, NSE’s mega IPO represents a maturing phase in India’s financial ecosystem—where established institutions seek public participation not for survival or expansion, but for value redistribution and enhanced governance.

  • Supreme Court Order Puts Banks Under Scrutiny in RCOM Loan Case

Supreme Court Order Puts Banks Under Scrutiny in RCOM Loan Case

New Delhi, February 10, 2026: The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the role of senior bank officials involved in sanctioning loans to Reliance Communication Ltd. (RCOM), shifting focus toward the conduct of lenders in one of the country’s significant financial default cases.

In its order dated February 4, 2026, the apex court instructed the CBI to examine whether financial assistance extended to the defaulting company was released through collusion or connivance between bank authorities and the company’s management. The directive emphasises a thorough investigation into the decision-making process behind the sanctioning and disbursement of loans.

According to sources, a consortium of 14 public sector banks had extended financial support to RCOM. The Court has mandated the CBI to scrutinise whether any bank officials acted in conspiracy or collusion with the corporate entity during the lending process.

Significantly, the Supreme Court clarified that Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act cannot be cited as a barrier to initiating investigations against bank officials. In Point No. 7 of its order, the Court observed:

“It is imperative upon the CBI to investigate the conduct of the bank authorities to determine whether financial assistance was released in collusion and connivance with the management of the defaulter company… We direct that, regardless of any such provision, the CBI must look into the nexus/collusion/connivance/conspiracy, if any, and adopt all lawful measures for taking the investigations to their logical conclusions.”

The ruling underscores that no statutory provision should be used to obstruct or dilute inquiries into alleged collusive arrangements between banks and corporate borrowers. The Court authorised the CBI to employ all lawful and appropriate measures to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

Further, the Supreme Court stressed that accountability within financial institutions and among public officials is critical to maintaining the integrity of the banking system. It also noted that procedural technicalities must not be allowed to shield potential financial misconduct, reiterating that investigations into serious financial irregularities must proceed independently and without impediment.
