One of Tollywood’s most graceful and admired actresses, Seerat Kapoor continues to leave an indelible mark on audiences with her compelling performances and magnetic screen presence. But behind her success lies a lesser-known journey—rooted in passion, personal choice, and a deep bond with her legendary grandfather, acting guru Roshan Taneja. Known for mentoring stalwarts like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Shatrughan Sinha, Govinda, Ranbir Kapoor, and many others, Roshan Taneja remains one of Indian cinema’s most respected figures.
Clearing the Air: A Journey of Her Own
Given her lineage, many assume Seerat’s entry into films was preordained by her family’s cinematic legacy. However, the actress is quick to clarify the truth behind her journey.
“People often assume that my grandfather initiated my acting journey, but that’s not the case,” Seerat shares. “I was already immersed in theatre, western dance, and Indian classical and semi-classical music—these expressive art forms felt very natural to me. Acting was just an extension of everything I loved.”
Recalling memories with her grandfather, she continues:
“Growing up, I was always deeply connected to Dadaji. His storytelling, that booming voice, and his infectious laugh—it lit up our home. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had his presence and guidance just as I was gaining clarity on my path. Choosing to formally train under him was my way of honoring that bond. My career is a tribute to Dadaji, and everything I do is with the hope of making him proud.”
Inspired, Not Imposed: The Taneja Legacy
Seerat emphasizes that while her grandfather never dictated her career choices, he inspired her through his own example.
“Dadaji never imposed his vision on me. Instead, he lived it. He was disciplined, grounded, and committed to the craft. He taught me to remain humble, to respect everyone, and not to let either success or failure define me. Those lessons have shaped me, both personally and professionally.”
A Family Bond Beyond Blood
While many may not know, Seerat is related to Roshan Taneja from her maternal side. Her maternal aunt is married to Roshan Taneja’s son, Rohit Taneja, and Seerat shares a close-knit bond with the Taneja family. She, her brother Varun, and cousins Ranjev and Raanvir have grown up together, sharing love and admiration as grandchildren of the legendary teacher.
